Park Palette Art Series for ages 10-18 will be held at Bowdoin Park in Pavilion 5. These classes take students through a step-by-step learning opportunity to create nature themed paintings. Students can choose one workshop or take all three. Cost is $12 (includes all supplies).  Limit: 12 participants per session.

This class is perfect for those students who LOVE ART and want more opportunity to create art! We’ll use a wide variety of water- based paints & supplies including watercolors tempera & glitter paints in solid, liquid, & tubes, markers, crayons, paint sticks, brushes, paint scrapers, pipettes, kosher salt, saran wrap & more! Both realistic, abstract, & collage work will be explored, allowing students to succeed at their own artistic abilities & ages.

Mrs. Margaret Grasso is a well known experienced art teacher from the Pine Bush & Valley Central school districts. She has a Master’s Degree in Art Education (K-12) & 28 years teaching art, plus over 12 years in art substituting K-12. She has also been an exhibiting artist & member of the Wallkill River School for several years. Come create with us & have lots of fun too!

The program begins with an indoor planetarium show at the John R. Kirk Planetarium.    After the planetarium show, Smolen Observatory will be open for telescope viewing only if the sky is clear (tickets are not required at the Observatory). Call the Observatory at 845-257-1110 to hear a message indicating if the public viewing has been canceled due to cloudy weather. Visitors can participate in either the planetarium show, observatory telescope viewing, or both. Astronomy Night telescope viewing begins shortly after sunset and therefore the start time changes according to the seasons.

Tickets are REQUIRED for the planetarium show. Tickets for Astronomy Night Planetarium shows become available one week prior to each show. A second show will be offered if the first show reaches capacity.

Masks are no longer required, but can be worn by any guest if they choose. Visitors show *proof of full vaccination or a negative 72-hour COVID-19 test*. Proof of full vaccination may include a CDC vaccination card or a valid New York State Excelsior Pass. New Paltz faculty, staff and students will be admitted by showing their campus ID, as they are already required to be vaccinated or participate in periodic COVID-19 testing. Audience members who feel unwell, have symptoms of COVID-19 or have recently been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should not attend in-person events.

Planetarium Show! at SUNY New Paltz

The Wilderstein Historic Site is not-for-profit house museum located on a wooded bluff overlooking the Hudson River.  It was the home of Margaret Suckley, a cousin and confidante of Franklin Roosevelt, and is widely regarded as the Hudson Valley’s most important example of Victorian architecture. The estate consists of 40-acres created over a century ago in the American romantic style by landscape architect Calvert Vaux. The trail system that traverses the property is approximately three miles long and takes about one hour to hike.

During his career, Vaux enjoyed an important association with Frederick Law Olmsted. At Wilderstein, Calvert Vaux created an intricate network of carriage drives, walks, and trails adorned with specimen trees and ornamental shrubs. The landscape plan entails well-chosen prospect points marked by rustic gazebos and sheltered garden seats. The trail system that traverses the property is approximately three miles long and takes about one hour to hike. Vaux’s reverence for nature, always clearly and thoughtfully expressed in his work, is still evident.

See the natural beauty of the Catskills from our railroad’s unique perspective aboard Ulster County’s scenic train.
All trains are round trip from the Westbrook Lane Station located in the Kingston Plaza adjacent Uptown Kingston’s Stockade District. Join us as we travel through some of the oldest farmlands in the United States where we will cross the Esopus creek as we travel through the Hurley Flats and then start climbing Hurley Mountain. Our Catskill Flyer rides are approximately an hour long.
