The Arboretum is home to the Remembrance Walkway and Garden to honor those who lost their lives and those whose lives have been forever altered by the tragic events of the September 11th attack on America. The September 11th Memorial features a stunning rotating granite sculpture of the earth surrounded by bronze plaques with the names of the 44 Orange County residents who perished that day.

The Wilderstein Historic Site is not-for-profit house museum located on a wooded bluff overlooking the Hudson River.  It was the home of Margaret Suckley, a cousin and confidante of Franklin Roosevelt, and is widely regarded as the Hudson Valley’s most important example of Victorian architecture. The estate consists of 40-acres created over a century ago in the American romantic style by landscape architect Calvert Vaux. The trail system that traverses the property is approximately three miles long and takes about one hour to hike.

Also available on weekends Guided Outdoor Tours of the landscape and the exterior of the mansion

During his career, Vaux enjoyed an important association with Frederick Law Olmsted. At Wilderstein, Calvert Vaux created an intricate network of carriage drives, walks, and trails adorned with specimen trees and ornamental shrubs. The landscape plan entails well-chosen prospect points marked by rustic gazebos and sheltered garden seats. The trail system that traverses the property is approximately three miles long and takes about one hour to hike. Vaux’s reverence for nature, always clearly and thoughtfully expressed in his work, is still evident.

Wave Hill is a museum without walls with a living collection of more than 4,000 varieties of trees, shrubs, vines, and herbaceous plants. It is the only public garden in the New York metropolitan area practicing a unique combination of classic horticultural craftsmanship and daring design.

COVID Guidelines

Here you will find a multitude of linked gardens, distinct from one another and intimate, as well as wide-open stretches of land. Frequently described as an urban oasis, Wave Hill comes as an enchanting surprise. The 28-acre site itself is stunning—high above the Hudson River with sweeping views and lots of open sky.

Wave Hill’s 28-acre site includes gardens, greenhouses and an 8-acre woodland. As you explore Wave Hill, please remember that it is a carefully cultivated garden, which is very different from a park. Our tips and guidelines help you navigate our expansive grounds and protect our living collection. Please be respectful of all that grows here and have a wonderful time exploring.

To welcome you safely, advance ticket reservations are required for all visitors. You may come any time during open hours on the day of your reservation.
