Fire is a cardinal skill for life. Number 3 of the 4 Sacred Steps of Survival, this class introduces students to the secrets of fire by friction. You will be introduced to the principles of fire making, starting with the first one using the “the bow drill”. Not only will you learn fire by friction, you will also learn proper knife handling skills, as well as other valuable fire related techniques.
*Our Classes are designed for adults. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.*

“What is tracking?”

Nothing in nature can move without disturbing something else. Tracking is more than just footprints on the earth. It can lead down many wonderful journeys, including to valuable resources, such as water, shelter and food sources. Tracking tells the story of nature. It tells the story of who was here, when they were here… but the rabbit hole goes deep, so prepare yourself.

Join us for the Grand Opening of our Native Tree Trail! The Native Tree Trail comprises 33 tree species and over 50 labeled specimens that brings visitors to all areas of the Arboretum. An easy-to-use guide and map has descriptions of each species and illustrations of each tree’s foliage. Guided hikes along the Native Tree Trail will be offered at 10, 11 and noon. Celebrate our native trees this Memorial Day Weekend!
This is an in-person program, meeting inside and outdoors. Masks are required for entry inside the Education Center during programs. No advanced reservations necessary.

Park Palette Art Series for ages 10-18 will be held at Bowdoin Park in Pavilion 5. These classes take students through a step-by-step learning opportunity to create nature themed paintings. Students can choose one workshop or take all three. Cost is $12 (includes all supplies). Limit: 12 participants per session.
