Planetarium at 8:30 pm (9:30 pm if necessary)
Observatory open 9:30 – 11:30 pm if sky is clear
Appropriate for ages 7 & up
There is a suggested ticket price of $5 per seat.
The program begins with an indoor planetarium show at the John R. Kirk Planetarium. After the planetarium show, Smolen Observatory will be open for telescope viewing only if the sky is clear (tickets are not required at the Observatory). Call the Observatory at 845-257-1110 to hear a message indicating if the public viewing has been canceled due to cloudy weather. Visitors can participate in either the planetarium show, observatory telescope viewing, or both. Astronomy Night telescope viewing begins shortly after sunset and therefore the start time changes according to the seasons.
Tickets are REQUIRED for the planetarium show. Tickets for Astronomy Night Planetarium shows become available one week prior to each show. A second show will be offered if the first show reaches capacity.
Masks are no longer required, but can be worn by any guest if they choose. Visitors show *proof of full vaccination or a negative 72-hour COVID-19 test*. Proof of full vaccination may include a CDC vaccination card or a valid New York State Excelsior Pass. New Paltz faculty, staff and students will be admitted by showing their campus ID, as they are already required to be vaccinated or participate in periodic COVID-19 testing. Audience members who feel unwell, have symptoms of COVID-19 or have recently been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should not attend in-person events.

Don’t let the summertime fly by without some quality JOY with your kids or grandkids. Ashokan Family Camp is a laid-back, cross-generational escape into nature, music, arts, crafts, and interactive fun & games!
Leave the screens, to-do lists, and household chores behind and experience 3 fun-filled days and 4 starry nights of pure family goodness. Try instrumental workshops and jamming, wildlife exploration & canoeing, drumming, dance & movement games. Create hands-on art projects, hear stories, write a song, and participate in epic campfire sing-alongs.
Parents, librarians, teachers, and anyone who works with children will find ideas and materials to enrich their lives or curriculum; age-old activities that enhance well-being and bring people together.
All activities are optional and are led by a warm and welcoming staff including Krisha Stoever, Tom Krumm, Ruth Ungar Merenda, Joakim Lartey, Dan Shornstein and more TBA. Camp tuition includes all meals (Sunday dinner through Thursday breakfast.) Select from free camping or one of the Ashokan Center’s comfortable on site lodging options.
Whether your family members are budding artists, musicians, naturalists, dancers, writers, storytellers – or just enjoy being free to explore and “be a kid” – Ashokan Family Camp has a rejuvenating impact at any age!
