The 1741 Mesier Homestead is now open for private tours, and is the perfect location for adults and students to engage in, and discover local history.

During this time of social distancing, visitors have an opportunity to tour privately, in their own group of no more than 4 people from the same “household”. Our Signature Experience tours allow guests to focus on items and topics that are of interest to them. Guests will be able to converse with the guide, ask questions, take their time looking at the exhibits. For example, depending on a group’s interest, we can focus on Victorian lifestyle, textiles, Presidential connections to the Wappinger area, or you can request the youth tour designed to engage and interact with young people and help them discover what life was like long ago. Simply put, our Signature Experience tour allows guest to customize their visit with us, taking the time to explore what is of interest to them.

One tour per day is offered Tuesday – Friday anytime between 10:30am-4pm. This schedule will expand as we fine-tune this new experience. To reserve a tour, please go to our EVENTS/Signature Experience tours page on our website, https://www.wappingershistoricalsociety.org/ and complete the RSVP registration form with your preferred days and times. We will get in touch with you to confirm. Please make reservations at least 48 hours in advance. You may also call our main number at (845) 632-1281 to arrange a tour. Only confirmed reservations will be honored. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate walk-ins at this time. Donations for this tour experience are very welcome and gratefully accepted; suggested donation is $5 per person.

Now that we’ve officially entered “Spooky Season,” Historic Huguenot Street will be providing all of your ghostly, socially-distanced needs with our Haunted Huguenot Street walking tour! This debut app tour and scavenger hunt will take the place of our popular, theatrical Haunted tours that happen on site every October. But do not fear—they will be back next year!

Written in verse, the Haunted script offers an engaging medium of storytelling whether you are listening to the audio narration or reading along on your own.

While the app is best enjoyed on site, you can take the plunge into the dark history of one of America’s oldest streets from the comfort of your couch, or wherever you are in the world. You will be provided with a map, clues, and photographs to find your way – the rest is up to you.

This new tour addition to the free HHS app (available now at the App Store and Go1gle Play) can be accessed for a small fee of $5. You can learn more about the Walking Tour app and how to download at https://www.huguenotstreet.org/app.

During this earth science-based program, families will embark on a short, gentle hike with a Museum Educator through the Bartow-Pell woods and learn about the plants and animals that call Pelham Bay Park home. Families will be able to observe flora and fauna in their natural habitat, as well as learn about the influence that humans have had on the land over time. The fall and winter seasons are the best time of year to explore the forest and coastline as seals can be seen sunbathing and migratory birds and wildlife are more visible during this time of year.
