OSSINING – Winter Mini-Camp @ Teatown Lake Reservation

 

Shake off the winter blues at Teatown! The week will be filled with games, crafts, and outdoor activities to energize the housebound child. Dress your child appropriately for the weather.

6-12 year olds: 9am-3pm

MT. TREMPER – Winter Travel and Adaptation @ Catskill Center

Humans and animals alike have learned how to survive cold, winter climates. We’ll talk about the history and science of winter adaption in this week’s edition of Catskill Mountain Kids.

Catskill Mountain Kids is a year-round weekly daytime program series that celebrates the nature, history and culture of the Catskills. Each session will include some focused learning time, hands-on activities, and outdoor exploration. The program is geared for ages 4-7 but all are welcome. Please dress for the weather/being outside and the possibility of getting messy.

The Winter session will run for 7 weeks and include programs on seasonal themes! More details will be added as the dates get closer. We’d love to see families come back every week, but you can also feel free to pick & choose the dates that work for you.

Suggested donation: $2/child (max of $5/family), members free. Donations support the ongoing programs and operations of the Catskill Interpretive Center, a program of the Catskill Center nonprofit organization.

MOUNT TREMPER – Winter Survival @ Catskill Center

This week for our winter series of Catskill Mountain Kids our topic is Winter Survival! Come to hear about the essentials of human and animal survival and practice some useful outdoor skills!

Catskill Mountain Kids is a year-round weekday program that celebrates the nature, history, and culture of the Catskills. Each session will include some focused learning time, hands-on activities, and outdoor exploration. The program is geared for ages 4-7 but all are welcome. Please dress for the weather/being outside and the possibility of getting messy. Suggested donation is $2 per child and $5 for a family, your contribution goes towards supply costs and guest educators.

The Winter session will run for seven weeks and include programs with the following themes: Bird Feeders; Winter Survival; Snow & Ice; Baking & Candy Making; Animal Tracking; and Maple Syrup. We’d love to see families come back every week, but you can also feel free to pick & choose the dates that work for you.

RUBY – Winter Wiggles Music & Movement Class @ Kathy’s Music Korner

Winter Wiggles is a music and movement class for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Get out of the house and come jump, bounce and wiggle with friends in our cozy studio!

This session is loaded with  movement to beat cabin fever  Each class incoroprates song, chant, instrument exploration, creative and directed movement and puppets or props… it is definitely a social experience for children and adults alike!   If you’ve done “Winter Wiggles” before, it will not be the same!  Each season, our music and activities evolve as we bring back old favorites and add both familiar classics and brand new originals! We’ll even take an imaginary field trip to a warmer climate during this session … maybe a beach or a rainforest jungle!

 

Session includes 45-min classes and take-home instrument.

 

Classes will not be held if roads are bad….session will be extended as needed to make up for inclement weather.

KERHONKSON – Two Views Snowshoe Hike @ Minnewaska State Park Preserve

 

Join Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, for an approximately two-mile snowshoe outing in the Peter’s Kill Area featuring views of the Rondout Valley and Clove Valley from cliff top ledges.

 

SUNDAY, January 6, 2019

9:30 am – 1 pm

 

This program is recommended for physically fit adults and children ages 9+

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18.

 

Although the distance is relatively short, there are a few modest hills on this route, which some people may find challenging on snowshoes.  A limited number of snowshoes are available for participants to borrow for this program from the education department. Otherwise, snowshoes may be rented for this program from the Park for a fee of $5 per person. Early arrival is suggested if you would like to borrow snowshoes. If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike.

 

This outing will meet in the Peter’s Kill Area.
