SCARSDALE – February Break Workshops @ The Digital Arts Experience

Day off from school? Come to The DAE for a half day or full day drop in. Students can explore 3D printing, coding, digital drawing, and more with the help of DAE instructors and mentors. All of our stations and 100% hands-on and focus on project-based learning, so students will create while they learn while collaborating with their peers.

AM: 9:30 am – 12 pm*
PM: 1 – 3:30 pm
*Drop off begins at 9 am. Pick up between 12 – 12:30 pm

Today’s theme: “Measure up!”  We use measuring skills almost every day – how tall are you? how fast are we going? do I have a temperature?  Today we’ll make our own measuring wheels and use it to find the length some unusual objects.

Exploring Play: Feathers and Fur – Our Animal Friends in Winter

FRIDAY,  December 7,th & 14th 2018

Children will be shown large pictures of different birds that we will identify.  We will hear the story  “ WHAT DO ANIMALS DO IN WINTER” .  We will play a sorting game with feathers and sing our change of seasons song.  Let’s talk about the 4 seasons – which is your favorite?  Why?  Let’s pretend we are hibernating in our cave – just like a real bear!!  Everyone will craft their own bird to take home!   Come join our Winter Fun!!!!

Exploring Play, held every Friday morning, is designed for children ages 2 to 4. Every month features a new theme brought to life for young children through creative and fun movement activities; song; story and a take home project for all.

Parents and caregivers are provided with information on the latest developments in Play research for young children.

RYE – Young Discoverers: Feathers and Fur @ Westchester Children’s Museum

Young Discoverers: Feathers and Fur – Our Animal Friends in Winter

WEDNESDAYS:  December 5th, 12th & 19th 2018

 

Children will become Jr. ornithologists and zoologists and share what they know about what birds and bears do in the winter.  We will examine real seagull, crow and peacock feathers and introduce new vocabulary words ie: migrate, hibernate and shelter.   We will go into our own make believe cave and hibernate – then hear the story  OLD BEAR  by Kevin Henkes .  Before we leave, everyone will make a bird picture to take home – decorated with real feathers!!

 

Young Discoverers is a weekly science-based “drop-in” program designed for children ages 2-5 Simple experiments and craft projects all add to the excitement of learning something new!

SATURDAY, October 27, 2018

– 6:30 pm

FREE for Members and $10 per person Non-Members.

This pre-Halloween family program may dispel some myths about bats.  After reading a story about bats, looking at photos ofBat all different kinds of bats, and making a bat craft, we will go on a hike and look for signs of these and other creatures of the night.  We’ll also play several “batty” games!

Program will run  rain or shine.
