This year’s story, KEEP THAT LAMP TRIMMED & BURNIN’, is drawn from the annals of the 1869 Saugerties Lighthouse, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

 

This project is undertaken in partnership with the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy. It is made possible with support from the Upstate Coalition for a Fairgame Arts Grant, The Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, and the NoVo Foundation. And by public funds from the County of Ulster’s Ulster County Cultural Services and Promotion Fund, administered by Arts Mid Hudson and the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

NEW PALTZ – FREE! Music in the Garden: Ghanaian Dance Workshop @ Elting Memorial Library

This event is free and open to the public.

 

Augustina Ofori Nelson and Fosino Nelson are professional West African dancers/ instructors originally from Accra, Ghana. Now based in the Capital Region of New York (Albany region), both Augustina and Fosino have traveled internationally as performers and teachers. In this all-ages workshop, they will provide an introduction to a number of traditional Ghanaian dances, accompanied by traditional Ghanaian drumming. They are excited to bring this energizing offering to the Elting Memorial Library! Both Augustina and Fosino will also be performing in the Heard world jazz concert following the workshop, at 6:30 pm.

 

 

This event will move inside in case of inclement weather.
