KINGSTON – Catskill Mountain Railroad’s Bunny Express

 

Climb aboard our vintage trains at our Kingston Plaza station for a ride across the Hurley Flats to Hurley Mountain and return. Enjoy the sights and sounds of classic railroading as your train climbs the grade up Hurley Mountain, following the same rail route travelers have used since the 1860s. Passengers will disembark to take part in an Easter egg hunt and to visit for photos with the friendly Easter Bunny and mischievous Fernando the Fox before returning to Kingston.

 

Please allow up to one hour from the complete train ride experience. ALL ABOARD!

 

OSSINING – Sugaring Sundays @ Teatown Lake Reservation

Stoke up the fire, it’s sugaring time at Teatown. From tapping to collecting, boiling to bottling, Teatown’s naturalists will be in Warren’s Sugar House sharing facts and folklore about this sweet time of year.

No refunds will be issued within 2 weeks of a program unless cancelled by Teatown. If a program is cancelled, refunds will be issued in full within one week from the program date.

 

CRAGSMOOR-Snowshoe Festival @ Sam’s Point

Join us this President’s Day weekend on SATURDAY, February 16th to learn about, try out, and have fun with snowshoes!

Representatives from Thruway Sporting Goods, MSR, and Tubbs will be on hand with an assortment of snowshoe models. Ongoing clinics and short walks will be offered to teach beginning techniques, answer all your snowshoeing questions, and to highlight features of various models. If you want to stretch your legs and go for a longer adventure, ranger-led three-mile snowshoe hikes will be offered at 10 am & 2 pm. Snowshoes will be available for these longer hikes on a first-come first-serve basis. If there is inclement weather, this event will be held on Sunday, the 17th. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Meet at the Sam’s Point Visitor Center. Additional information is available by calling Sam’s Point at 845-647-7989.

No experience necessary; bird watchers of all levels are encouraged to participate.

 

Take your birding adventures to the next level by participating in the annual Great Backyard Bird Count! This global “citizen science” research project engages bird watchers of all ages in helping to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. Using smartphone apps and official, field-data forms, track and record the birds in Wave Hill’s backyard, guided by naturalist Gabriel Willow. Share your observations with fellow participants over cocoa and coffee at the conclusion of the program.

 

Wave Hill is a spectacular 28-acre public garden and cultural center overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades in the Bronx, Wave Hill’s vibrant landscape is one of the most beautiful spots in New York City.

KERHONKSON – Mossy Glen Snowshoe Hike @ Minnewaska State Park Preserve

SUNDAY, January 20, 2019

1 – 4:30 pm

Join Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, for a crisp hike in the wintry woods. On this approximately three-and-a-half-mile snowshoe outing, participants will walk through the forest, along the Peter’s Kill stream and return on Lower Awosting Carriage Road. A limited number of snowshoes are available for participants to borrow for this program from the education department, located at the Peter’s Kill Area. Otherwise, snowshoes may be rented for this program from the Park for a fee of $5 per person. Early arrival at the Peter’s Kill Area is suggested if you would like to borrow snowshoes. If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike. Meet in the Awosting Parking Area.
