The Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB) at Sarah Lawrence College

Launched June 2013, the Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB) is an alliance of Sarah Lawrence College and the Hudson River Valley Environmental Education Institute. The mission of CURB is to advance environmental knowledge and stewardship by providing high quality      K-12 environmental education for the local community, establishing a regional hub for research and monitoring focused on Hudson River estuary and urban watershed issues, and serving as a welcoming open community space for a variety of civic and cultural activities.

CURB features an Aquaria, Kid's Corner, Hudson River Species Display, a Watershed Table and Library. Riverfront features include a Sandy Beach, a Tidal Salt Marsh, Habirshaw Park, and a Garden.

HOURS:

Monday – Friday (Saturdays during River Explorers Programs)

9 am - 5 pm

Weekend hours vary based on public program schedules and events.

The park is open to the public year-round until dusk.

ADMISSION: 

Admission to CURB is FREE.  Donations are greatly appreciated.

CURB is open to the public. However we also conduct daily scheduled programs,                          so please call in advance to make sure no classes are in session.

VOLUNTEER

Ages 14 & up; Volunteers assist the staff in day to day activities such as education programs,  lab maintenance, park clean-ups, and office work. In addition to long term volunteering commitments, we also offer single day events for student clubs, community organizations & scouts.

EDUCATION

CURB offers an extensive curriculum of interactive environmental educational programs including experiential classroom and field-based programs for students K-12, intensive college credit courses, and professional development for teachers. Three Rivers of Yonkers is a curriculum developed for grades 4 & 5 to help stimulate students’ interest in science at an early age and to encourage students to become stewards of the Hudson, Bronx, and Saw Mill Rivers as well as  to develop life-long habits of environmental citizenship.
