PLEASANTVILLE- Q & A & Film “The Wiz” @ Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC)

Opening Night with Q&A film subject/teacher Dr. Serena McCalla and RECEPTION

SUNDAY, October 14, 2018

5 pm

Tickets: $9 (members), $14 (nonmembers)

Featuring an entirely African-American cast, The Wiz was inspired by the Broadway Motown version of The Wizard of Oz. It’s got joyous singing and dancing, plenty of laughs, and an all-star cast led by Diana Ross as Dorothy, a Harlem schoolteacher transported to the Land of Oz (which looks suspiciously like a riff on New York City). During her adventures, she meets Glinda the Good Witch (Lena Horne), a scarecrow (Michael Jackson), the Tin Man (Nipsey Russell), the Cowardly Lion (Ted Ross), and The Wiz himself (Richard Pryor). Quincy Jones supervised the music. Four Oscar nominations.
